DVD dash to DVD plus

I dubbed a VHS to DVD on my Sylvania DVD-R machine. It plays on all other DVD's in the house, but I can't copy it on my Dell computer. The Dell apparently wants the original to be a DVD+. Does anybody know of a way to get my Dell to copy it? Thanks.

What kind of DVD reader/burner do you have in your DELL computer?

When I was using - and + media and tried to use Nero to copy a DVD Nero told me the same thing. At that time I had a LiteOn 832s DVD burner. I have since then been using all + media and have not had the problem. I asked a Nero tech in another forum and he said Nero with my burner should have done it. I told him it wouldn't. I now use all + media in my LiteOn Standalone recorder and booktype it to DVD-ROM when finalizing and also in my PC based burners.
