The file D:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.

Is the error msg I get when I try to import video

i do all my editing in avisynth, but since it runs on scripts and due to it's higher learning curve it can be a very tedious task. i've never really used anything else.

but for free, windows movie maker is probably the best you're going to get. as for commercial software, others seem to like vegas or ulead video studio

Since your miniDVDs come with MPEG-2, editing with Sony Vegas, Premiere, Ulead,...will less or more degrade quality because of re-encoding. In order to add something such as adding music, transitions, fades, titles,...you can use MPEG Video Wizard to do all those steps without reducing quality

                    Regards
