    Have you tried uninstalling, reboot and then reinstall?

      Yes.No luck.Even tried version 3.07 that came with nero 6.6.0.18.Same error.Do u think there is a problem with that drive?It is reading OK but has been causing some problems while writing.

        try reflashing the firmware in safe mode, if that doesn't help, it might be dying

                @Chewy,
                Yes.Reflashed in Safe Mode(as u had advised).Nero Info Tool still hangs at the same point.I will try to burn and let u know.But I am curious to know whether a dying drive can READ correctly. The drive is reading ok.

                    Know what!!!!! My TS-H552U did manage to write a Data-DVD of 4450MB.And that too on the cheap media which it failed to write on 3 consecutive occasions.So ,the drive is not dead as yet.But Chewy, can u advise about media available in my country which has the best chance of being written? Moserbaer is freely available and quite affordable.How can I tell whether the media is fake or not? The TS-552U is a Samsung drive, and yet had previously been incompatible with the relatively costly Samsung Pleomax DVD-R and Sony DVD-R. Should I go for another writer? Any suggestions?
                    And lastly,why that Nero Info Tool problem?

                      let's see a nero log(recent) you may have bus problems, let's hope something which is easy to fix

                      are there any verbatims sold there, since MBI makes them in India, they would be one of the best authetic mbi made

                        @Chewy,
                        Want alog of the successful burn or the failed burn?
                        BTW, I must mention that all the previous failed burns were with Nero 6.6.1.4.
                        I then uninstalled it,ran the Nero General clean tool and installed version 6.6.0.18. The successful burn was with the lower vversion.In the excitement of having a good burn I forgot to save the burn log.But I have the logs of the earlier failed burns.Here is one of them:
                        Log.txt

                            Thanks Chewy for being so patient with me.I will definitely search for Verbatims.I had another failed burn with discs having mid code POSG06.It later gave a successful burn.How is that media?
                            I also am thinking about procuring a BenQ1650 or Sony DRU820A.What do u think of these?
                            And again,why that Nero Info Tool crash?

                              You might have some conflicting driver for another burn program, even a remnant of one, or some ide driver that's non-compliant.
