    Video Card Upgrade!

Im looking to upgrade my computer, I just bought a second hard drive today adding 250gb storage, now im looking at video cards. I was searching diff websites and at ATI's I found this http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2588471 I was wondering if it was a good price for the product, and if it was a good product at all? Thxs in advance for your infinte wisdom.

Also if anyone has any tips on what to look for or what to buy that would be great. Im looking for a good card for gaming and other things, im upgrading from a 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800

and if it was a good product at all?
it's an older card, can't say if price is good but will certainly lack in features (notably hardware assisted h264 decoding/encoding) when compared to the x1x00 or geforce 7. if on a lower budget i'd go with something like the 7600GT or plain 7800

I puchased a ATI X800 256 Pro from ATI about 1 year ago. It was a refurb and came with a 3 year warranty. I do a lot of MS FS2004 Flight Simulator and CAD using Rhino. I like this card. I had an ATI 9800se 128mb before and this one is substantially better. I prefer ATI drivers and use a modified one which are readily available on the web. I also liked ATI's attitude on returns and support. Just my experience. I seem to read a lot about Nvidia drivers problems. I have never had any aTI driver problems. I am running an AMD3700 64 with 2G of ram on an Asus K8VSE board with the ATI card. Not a top of the line system but it works well.

I rarely Buy Direct from ATI as their Prices are always higher (Or seem that way)
one of the Better places as Far as price and ways to find it would be newegg.com , they are just the ones I use to purchase most my upgrades... and they have a great return policy... hope this helps...

as for the price on the x800xt AIW AGPcard price is only 10 higher through ATI

IAt the time I purchased my X800 that price from ATI was 100's of dollars less. That was because of the card being a refurb, but with a 3 year warrantee who cares. Sometimes companies sell refurbs and you may not now it (not saying that newegg does) so you must shop around and compare price and service and go with what you find comfortable. Make sure you compare on equal products so you get a real comparison.

Build your own. You make what you want that way. Set a price. That will determine what you can build. Try Newegg for parts. I use Tigerdirect.com. Shop around most places will price match. Don't bottom feed because you'll get crap that way. I prefer AMD over Intel, just a preference. Look at barebone packages some are real good some aren't.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CMP=ILC-FPM08 This is a page from Tigerdirect.com listing thier "barebone kits". They do not come with a operating system. They come with varying levels of components. You need to really be careful when you shop. Chewy, one of our moderators can really give you the heads up on what to get. I do a lot with Tigerdirect but other people have had different experiences so I can only tell you that mine has been exceptionally great. Barebones can be a great way to build a system on a budget just research what you do. AMD, get the 939 socket.
