No sounds on my vcd after I encode Mpeg4 to mpeg1?

Ok I am new at this. I got an avi movie(mpeg4) and i wanted to use tmpeng (was told by people in here thanks guys!) but i have no sound. I do not really know what to do I kinda need a step by step explanation. I dont even really know what or how to set and why with tmpeng. This is my first try in converting movies and still am waiting to see one that works (nembye!) Anyway thanks in advance for anyhelp!
