    Thanks for the suggestions. I tried other USB cables and it had no effect. Looks like Firmware is the issue.

    Based on the part in red it looks like the Firmware will only enable faster burning for certain brands of media. I agree that Verbatim is the best (no coasters yet) and am not inclined to switch to get faster burned coasters!
