Sony (hard drive) Handycam fuzzy video

My sony Handycam with a hard drive memory takes video fine and they show up fine when viewed on the camera, but when I move the files to my PC, the video is grainy, I guess is the word. It has horizontal lines that seem to disalign when there is any movement at all from when the video was taken. Is this something to do with my camera? Or is it the transfer due to lack of hi speed USB (of which I have USB 2.0 but I can't seem to get it to work)?

Any suggestions or thoughts. I know it is a relatively new type of camera, but I figured someone would know.
