    suggestions on video problem

Can some one with a little time and knowledge set me a path to find out why the playback of dvd files from disc or hd on WMP10,Power DVD or Winamp is poor (similar to when no drivers are installed) ,yet the playback of other video files(video streaming) on those players or QT alt is fine . My system is a P4 2.6mhz with 512ddr and Gforce 256mb card running on Asus P4P 800. Disk drive is LG GSA-4163B and it works (reads, rips +burns) just fine. I have a collection of around 200 movies and can recall less than 3-4 failures. I have reinstalled the graphics drivers that came with the player on several occasions with no visible improvement. Im sure when it was originally installed it gave good quality playback but that was around 18 mths ago and it has been bad for roughly the last 6 months. My suspicions are that several programs got loaded in rapid succession (photoshop CS2, MSFT.Visual Studio,Nero7,Winamp,Turbocad etc) and somewhere in that lot things got hosed. as you can probably see this is not something I must fix urgently but would appreciate any thoughts. Apologies if there is a straightforward answer in the FAQ that I missed.

    welcome to the forum

start by updating directx, updating graphics drivers (not sure what you mean by installing ones that come with the player) and use media player classic to rule out the mpeg2 decoder
