Need a good SVHS tape for recording

I looked and there was all sort of brands and specifications so I'm curious about which one would be the best to get so I need your advice. I'm want to record on a "Sony SLV-R1000" and I would like to get the best possible quality out of it when I'm recording to the tape from either cable UHF connection or composite-svideo inputs. Today I tried recording with a new VHS tape Premium Quality the brand was Sony but I then compared it with the cable broadcast for exactness (same face, same scene C-SPAN2) I just press STOP looked at the original for a while then press PLAY and looked but I got dissapointed.

I had found the MQST-120 Broadcast Videocassette to be the best video cassette for its quality of video specifically and it seems the audio is better too. The recommended JVC S-VHS Tapes (ST120SVDU2) have dissapointed me.

What about Memorex VHS tapes,I believe they still carry them at Walmart and Kmart thats where I bought mine last.I have also used TDK and had no trouble with those.

I just remembered. You can take a HIGH QUALITY VHS tape and convert it to a SVHS. You basically need a small awl to punch a hole in the back where the SVHS indicator hole is located. I used to save myself a few bucks that way.

If you use a high quality metal tape you should be OK. The particle density should be high enough to support S-VHS. IIRC a engineer friend of mine told me this. In practice, I can vouch that it works. If I remember, back then, a regular tape was about $3, a HQ about $8 and a S-VHS about $17-20+. So if you can find a good HQ, worth a try.

I have no idea what's even available now a days. I used to use TDK, but that was a long time ago. BTW why are you ueven fussing with S-VHS? For a hundred dollars you can record straight to DVD with a lot better quality.
