Audio editing software

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone knew of any audio-editing software for mp3s. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something I could use to trim the extra stuff off of live recordings, etc.

Super great MP3 editing program and can make exact cuts from the audio sound anywhere along the MP3 stream.

Slight learning curve program, but also freeware.

Nero Wave Editor if you have Nero installed.

Audacity if you don't.

What do you mean by lossless splitting? If you record a file as .wav, and then delete some, and then resave as a WAV in Nero, you aren't losing quality as WAV is lossless. Or were you talking about MP3 files?

he was looking for a tool that will split mp3s. nero wave editor can't do that without re-encoding. if you export as lpcm wav, then correct, no quality is lost but you're left with much larger file size

Will audacity trim the dead air off the end of an MP3 & if so how would you do it? I did google but could not come up with this info, everything else but not this. When you are done would you export it as an MP3 because Audacity would save it as an AUP?

audacity will trim & do many other editing functions; open the file that you want to edit, mouse over the beginning of the track & pull the slider to the end of the file that you want to cut the silence from.

Click edit > trim. export finished file as an mp3.

I actually recommend Goldwave over audacity, 'cause I feel it is easier to use, but maybe that's just me, since I have more experience with Goldwave. (free trial vers., but I liked it so much that I purchased it!)

Also, I like to do a lot of files at once (batch process), such as trim ends, etc., & I am not sure if audacity does this or not. Plus, Goldwave will allow you to select many different bitrates to save as, & audacity is limited in that.

You will need the "lame mp3" plugin installed too, but you probably already know that.

Also, the folks on here have turned me on to mp3gain for "normalizing" all mp3 files. It works better than anything that I have used. The "match volume" function in the audio edit programs doesn't come close to doing a job like mp3gain.<B>
