Transfering digital movies from handycam to computer

I have a Sony Handycam Digital 8 DCR-TRV480 and would like to be able to transfer the video's I have taken and burn to a DVD on the computer. I took my computer in today to have it looked at and asked what all I would need to be able to do this, and the guy told me he had no clue. He had tried many times with different cameras and has not been able to do it. Can anyone out there suggest or help me with this? Thank you! And is there a user friendly program out there to create really cool DVD's?

I notice on google that it has an USB output, have you tried transferring the movies from your camera to computer yet??

The original should have come with software (a CD) and a transfer cable to do this.

Once you got it downloaded, the video will have to be analyzed. You may have to convert it to play it on a DVD player.

Do I need to have a dvd player on my computer to view the movie or copy it to the computer from the camcorder? I think I have tried using the usb cable with no luck, but I will try again tonight and see what if anything it does and let you know tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.

What I did with my Sony Camcorder was hooked it up with a Firewire cable. You will not be able to transfer video from Camcorder to Pc using the USB. So go out and get a 4pin to 6pin Firewire cable providing that your camcorder allows a Firewire connection.

Also try the Ulead VideoStudio to transfer your video to PC. You can get it as a trial.

I tried again last night to use the USB cable and it worked, but what it did was make it able to write to a CD. When I play the CD it isn't as sharp and clear unless I make the viewing window small. I want to be able to use the whole screen to veiw it, plus I do want to be able to edit and write to a DVD so that we can watch it on our TV. I still need to get my computer set up for all of this, it doesn't have a DVD drive nor does it have a firewire card so those are two things I need to get along with the firewire cable. Are these things I can do myself or should I take it to someone? I have changed modems before in an older computer and added memory.

If you have changed modems and such then you can put in a DVD drive and Firewire card, just plug them in and go. But my advice would be to get a DVD burner and a Firewire card then start transferring videos to your comp.

I'm glad I did because I have precious family moments that I want to remeber for a log time. GL on what you decide to do.

Here are the 2 things you need:
