    Divx5 VS MP42

Hi! I've been working with DivX for a while now, but never got into this problem before. I DL a movie and wanted to work a little in Nandub, then Nandub told me "unknown format MP42", so i searched for info and DL Windows codec for MP42 and could then work in Nandub(VirtualDub). But then the shit hit the fan, MP42 codec did something to the system so DivX5 got useless. BSPlayer wouldn't show none of my movies anymore, and MicroDVD:s screen got all dark and it was impossible to change brightness-settings in the DivX codec. The only player that worked was MSMediaPlayer, but I want subtexts so I reinstalled the system and tried my usual players and they worked fine, until I put back MP42:s .dll:s, then the same thing happened again.

Question: Isn't it possible to have both MP42 codecs and DivX5 codecs in the system at the same time???

My solution to this problem was to remove mpg4c32.dll and
MPG4DS32.ax from the Windows\System catalog to be able to use DivX codec in BSPlayer. Anybody got more info about this problem?

They coexist quite nicely on both my system's, which installer did you use to get MP42 ?.

Try uninstalling both the DivX v.5.01 codec and the Microsoft codec. Then, first install the Microsoft codec, followed by installing the DivX v.5.01 codec...

        Hi again!
As answer to khp i used the installer from MS called wincodecs.exe found with tools for Mediaplayer, and as answer to setarip that "wincodecs.exe" doesn't come with an uninstaller tool. But I tried to uninstall Divx5 and reinstall that when MP42 still was in the system, (version Divx501bundle.exe) but it didn't work. as long as MS:both .dll:s are in the system_catalog i only get sound and a grey screen in BSPlayer, and no tweek possibilities in MDVD.

Question to you both: I'm running winME what OS do You have.
Also I got a common GeForce2 MX 400 card, I don't know if it has something to do with that.

          I'am running win98 and win2k.

Instead of using the microsoft installer. Try getting the codec from one of the codec packs from here

in particular the nimo codec pack should have what you want.

Thanks khp, the Nimocodec worked like a charm. Now DivX works as it should even though Windows MP42 is in the system. I guess that other players aren't allowed to use MP42, 'cause I can't wach MP42 movies in BSPlayer, but they work fine in MediaPlayer, but that's not very important, the important thing is that I can now have both codecs cooperating.

            Thank's again
