    frame rate

jst wanted to know what i could do to encrease my frame rate( abaout 6 to 7 fps at the moment) while encoding with flask 0.6 and all needet features
my machine is a 800 p3, system is win 2k
my avarage encoding time for an 90 min movie is around 7 hours

Unless it's been eliminated since Flask v.0.594, once you start running the conversion you should see a box that allows you to set how much of your processor time will be devoted to Flask (as opposed to anything else that might be running foreground or background), including the choice of devoting virtually ALL processor activity to Flask.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

I also tried to increase the speed but it doesn't chang when you change the processot from NORMAl to HIGH, the speeds stays hanging.
Then, I tried to encode 2 DVD's in one time. (Maybe both would have 5 à 6) BUT NO! The speed lowered to 2,5.

Soultion: Buy super processors like Crays!!! THAT WILL SPEED UP STUFF!!

Flask is just about the slowest encodingcoding tool it the know universe, faster encoding with the same features can be found in xmpeg or Gordian Knot.

In my personal experience Xmpeg is much more buggy than flask.

GordianKnot on the other hand is perhaps a bit more complicated,
but there is a really nice guide over at www.doom9.net

              Awww

My bubble of egotism just got popped...When I set for de-interlace, I drop ot 5.5 or so fps, as opposed to 7.5 to 8 without using de-interlace...Looks like we BOTH need a faster PC....

what you get out of your machines sems just about fine/normal!

fps may vary a little, depending on ram + system configutration but all in all only a faster cpu will help you increrease fps drastically unless you dont go for another tool.

xmpeg is a flask derivate (and thus imho a crappy tool [sorry, khp, couldnt resist]) but it is said to be faster.

if it runs fine for you, it might be worth a try.

and de-interlacing will slow down every tool/system!

                  No Problem,
Anyway I'am rapidly moveing towards using GordianKnot, with SmartRippers new ability to make dvd2avi project files, setup time for GK is down to a few minutes.

I have a 1.8ghz, 256ram, vaio p4 computer and i get between 18 to 22 fps (depending on the input framerate either 24 or 30fps) and it takes about 2 and 1/2 hours to encode a 100 minute movie. I use flaskmpeg. When I first started I was getting about 15 fps. To get the framerate up I use the low-motion codec with, a key frame every second, 75% on the smoothness-crispness, and somewhere between 5900 and 6000 on the data rate. The data rate didnt take really any more time to encode and gives much better quality but depending on the movie might not fit on one cd (i have 2 movies that will fit on one cd, while 2 movies wont).

                      THAT IS FAST!!!

Wow man, that's fast. Maybe it's even good I don't have such a speed. Otherwise my house would become one giant video house!!

Lots of people hate Flask, but it's simply the best when you need to add subtitles. (Better suggestions are always welcome.)

there are links of nick's pages for flask plugins try Miha's x87 Fast iDCT or there is one there for pentz start up flask as per usal and when you config the options you should see a auto box checked for iDCT un check it and chose the manual select option, try a different idct go back to the main menu and press test at the top of the test it will give you a time, then try another, use the fastest time it should realy speed thing up. 124min film two cd's will take me 2hrs 50 - 3hrs12 if i leave it default, 4hrs15 4hrs45 for the same job
