MPEG4 videos playing on Mac but not on PC

I have just uploaded a video to a syndication site. The video plays properly. I then placed a link on my main web site to the syndication site.. When I click the link on my web site on my Mac the video plays fine, but on my PC the video won't play.

Does anyone know why this might be.

    Thanks.

          Thanks.

I went to your site, but unfortunately it was all way beyond me. I am a Marketing man not a tekkie.

Can anyone answer my question in plain English?

            .
m4v - .mp4 files with the WRONG extension introduced by Apple for video+audio files, .m4v can be safely renamed to .mp4 (.m4v is used in Apple iTunes and iPod)
you can't stream a m4v mac file and play it from a normal windows computer

            try the renaming trick

              That's nearly done the trick.

The video will now play on Firefox but NOT on Explorer.

Do you have any other helpful ideas?

you might find some clues there

I don't like apple or quicktime for this reason

                  Thanks for all your help.

The article is really useful. I will study it in depth.

i'd rather convert to avi and thus be on the safer side

mov may be fine for macs but many window users dont like to install quicktime as it may sometime really screw your system ("quicktime alternative" is a useful filter for those of you who dont want quicktime itself)

should you be in need of a decent playback filter for wmv/avis on your mac take a look at "flip4mac"
