Best Solution For DVD Storage Case?

    Hi all,

I am trying to come up with a good DVD storage idea for my backups, which get the most handling. Currently I use "storage towers" that are slim vertical & hold 100 ea. I use the slim DVD cases. I am looking for a better? solution, such as the "Hard Aluminum" Mega Case

but I don't know if I really am fond of the idea of sliding the DVDs in & out of the plastic sleeves all the time. Seems like it would cause a real scratch problem with the discs.

What do all you folks use for easy storage, & also being able to identify/label the movies would be a real plus, since slim line cases have such a tiny edge for a label!

    Thanks, katz

I store mine in Dvd cases, stored upright on shelves & labeled on the edge but sooner or later I will run out of room.

I do that too, but I was concerned about storing them in the light. (You know, keep them in a cool, dark place)

Now check out this storage manager!

Get the 600 DVD size as it is made now.

And order 2 if it will save on shipping as it is very bulky.

I have that style and I am on my third one.

The hardest thing to do is the cataloguing.

Yes, I am finding that as well. I guess with the plastic hanging sleeves, you could at least pull the sleeves easily out of the holder to reorganize alphabetically.

Then it is hard to put them in and pull them back out.

Find a data base program that you can use to catalog your movies.

Each of mine has a 4 digit unique ID now that the first digit is case and the last 3 are the movie #.

Otherwise you will be moving 100s of movies to make space for 1

Hmmm...I was thinking that the plastic sleeves were mounted on some type of "hook" system, like in a file cabinet. If that were the case, you could easily reorganize discs by pulling thw entire sleeve & relocating to the proper place, just like in the file cabinet system.

The sleeves (with hooks) are pre-numbered

What about using the upc code to catalog the dvd's?

I too use the Alum trunk's (on my third too)...along with an old program to track where they are.

Don't think the scratch/sleeve problem will be an issue.

How about storing your back-up DVD-5/DVD-9/mpeg4/ in full size CD cases with spline and front and back pictures, and picture on disk.

Store them in a floor to ceiling bookcase in the great room, labled on the spline the movie title from A to Z.

Nice suggestion, ed. I am still in the "considering stages" at this point. I did like the idea of the Aluminum cases, but for some reason I still can't get past the idea of sliding the DVDs in the plastic sleeves; after all, I know what my mp3 discs look like that I transport that way for playing in my car!

It would be easy enough to rearrange the titles that way!
