Divx and Xvid Files Not Filling Screen

okay, i just bought a stand alone dvd player that plays divx and xvid. when i burn a divx or xvid file to cd and then play on my stand alone dvd player it plays but only fills up a square box right in the middle of my tv screen with black space all around the square. when i play these same files on my pc they will play full screen. do these files need to be re-encoded to play correctly on my dvd player???

    They may need to be 720 (704) X 480 for NTSC or 720 (704) X 576 for PAL.
