Extract/Remove Subtitles from .AVI?

I know its impossible if they coded into picture, but from what i know when i wanted to build in .sub to .avi file i read that there is some way subtitles stored in .avi not being hard coded into video, is there such way and how i extract/remove them is there is?

Use AVI-Mux GUI, but IIRC it only accepts SRT and SSA
