my favourite is VOB2AUDIO since it makes use of graphedit routines, is very userfriendly, very fast and has very good surround signalddownmix.
if v2a fails, i'd use DVD2AVI to extract/ decode the sound stream.
fyi gmrulez4u, ac3 the original format in which sound is being stored (in most cases) in dvd's.
it may be 5.1 dolyb digital, 2.0 surround or no more than mono.
the dvd file-format is vob (video object) which includes sound and video.
vbr-mp3 stands for variable bitrate.
when using vob2audio you can choose between wave, mp3 or ac3 as OUTPUT format.
mp3 might be fine if you dont want no further work, wave would be fine for additional sound editing and ac3 is the only way to keep 5.1 dolby digital (an mp3 can keep 2.0 surround).
