    Dvd-vr?

I originally posted this in the DVD Ripping forum but when it got deleted, this post was lost.

I bought a DVD recorder the other day, and I was recording some stuff on a DVD-RAM. It gave one massive VOB file (but it's another file extension), and therefore doesn't have VIDEO_TS.IFO.

My question is, how can I convert it to VOBs? I would assume it would just need to be broken up into 1GB chunks, but DVD Shrink won't open it, due to the lack of IFOs.

Also, any idea how to edit a video (like take commercials out of a taped TV show) while keeping the closed captions? I will try VideoReDo but I have a bad feeling that they won't survive.

Thanks, hopefully this isn't against the new rule as it isn't actually about decrypting a DVD.

The only application I know of that is able to extract ttx subs in mpeg ps/ts (assuming they are in there) is ProjectX. Use it to demux & cut commercials, then author with Muxman.

The "subs" are closed captions tho (dunno if they have those in the land down under?)... they aren't like DVD subs.

I have this little app that's supposed to convert them to normal DVD subtitles, but I haven't tried it yet. But, will ProjectX keep them in after editing, or do I have to remux? (as that would mess timing up, taking parts out.)

        They do.

ProjectX will demux all streams and maintain sync.

Wait, so do I demux before I cut, or after?

Both are done at the same time.

So, when I cut the commercials out, will the captions just be there? Or do I have to do something special with it?

Why don't you try it and tell me? Won't take more than a few minutes.
