    May 15th Gas Out.

    Got this in the e-mail:

    MAY 15TH 2007.

    NO GAS...On May 15th 2007 -- Don't pump gas on MAY 15th.

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide, in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices then dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight. So, on May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station, in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now
over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up. If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day. So please do not go to the gas station on May 15th, and let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry, for at least one day.

If you agree, resend this to all on your contact list. With it, saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

TNT, I like your thinking but, they'll just make it all back the next day and then some! Another way to go about this that would stand a better chance of success would be to single out one major oil company, let's say Exxon, since they created the big spill in Alaska years back, and refuse to buy gas with from them. In a short time, they'll have to lower prices to stay in business. All their competitors will have to do the same, thus creating a gas war! To be safe, let's do both things! Not buying gas on May 15th will get their attention and not buying Exxon gas will show them we mean business! Sounds good and it should work, but , being the pessimist that I can be, I doubt if it will. To get 73,000,000 Americans to do something the same way at the same time is a wet dream. The excuses go like this; "The gas station up the street is so convenient" or " Well, I have to get to work today and I need gas now! Other people will do it so I won't make a difference." The list of reasons could go on and on! Besides, we Americans should consider ourselves lucky that prices are so low. Not to argue , but look at the rest of the free world. They drive those little cars for a reason.
To be on the safe side though, I agree . We should do the suggested ideas! What can it hurt?

Sorry guys, apparently a well intentioned plan that hasn't worked in the past. See here. Feel free to ignore.

It is amazing to me to see folks pumping gas at a gas station, when another station right next door is selling the same gasoline for $.20/gallon less. As long as we all continue to buy gas with abandon and pay whatever they feel like charging, they will keep charging more and more. If everyone simply identifies the highest priced station in your immediate area - and don't go there at all - that will get someone's attention.
I don't waste gas driving around looking for the cheapest station - but you won't find me in a Chevron station unless my car is on fumes with no other alternatives, because they always have the highest prices in our area.

The only boycott that I can think of that might have an effect is similar to bill's suggestion. Is somehow get EVERYONE in North America not to buy gas from Exxon for 30 days. The next month nobody buy gas from Chevron, the following month Shell and so on. I think if their shareholders see their stock prices drop for a month, it might get their bigwigs to take some action. But I doubt that everyone would be will to participate, and this would probably only hurt the gas station owner.

What gets me is that folks still drive 8 MPG SUV's while toying around town running menial errands...
