    videos for web posting

i am trying to figure out how to encode, or convert or whatever it is i need to do to get videos in a format that i can post on my myspace page. i have some videos that show up and play the moment i upload them and others that won't. i just get a message telling me that if i am having trouble playing them, i can download and install quicktime which i already have installed.

i looked at the video format information and it seems to be what is different between the videos that will play and those that won't. i have a variety of video editing software, but i can't seem to figure out how to take a video that is

    File Name: J:\Music Videos\The Theft.mpg
    File Size: 106854404 ( 0.10 GB )
    Program Duration: 00:03:47.07
    File Type: PS - MPEG1
    Encoding: MPEG 2
    Video stream Id: xE0
    Encoding Dimensions: 480 x 480
    Display Size: 480 x 480
    Aspect Ratio: 4/3
    Frame Rate: 29.97 FPS
    Bit Rate: 3.500 Mbps
    VBV_Buffer: 224 KB
    Profile: Main/Main
    Progressive: Prog or Int
    Chroma: 4:2:0
    Audio Format: Layer 2
    Audio Stream Id: xC0
    Audio Bit Rate: 192 Kbps
    Audio Sampling Rate: 48000 Hz

    and convert it to

    File Name: J:\Shorts\Sketch.mpg
    File Size: 35738472 ( 0.03 GB )
    Program Duration: 00:03:24.21
    File Type: PS - MPEG1
    Encoding: MPEG 1
    Video stream Id: xE0
    Encoding Dimensions: 368 x 240
    Display Size: 368 x 240
    Aspect Ratio: Unknown
    Frame Rate: 25.00 FPS
    Bit Rate: 1.184 Mbps
    VBV_Buffer: 34 KB
    Profile: Main/Main
    Progressive: Prog or Int
    Chroma: 4:2:0
    Audio Format: Layer 2
    Audio Stream Id: xC0
    Audio Bit Rate: 192 Kbps
    Audio Sampling Rate: 44100 Hz

obviously i am putting the wrong words in the software help search field because i can't figure out how to tell the mpg editing software what encoding dimensions i want to use, and don't know what to use for the avi editing software.

i hope this is clear and someone can help.

Well one is MPEG2, has a resolution of 480x480 and a framerate of 29.97. While the other is MPEG1, resolution of 368x240 and framerate of 25. I don't know what it is that MySpace expects, but those 3 properties are the ones you'll want to change.

Why not just upload it to Youtube and embed the video in your page?
