I've had this problem before and I got to learn what was what. I always by Plus & Minus DVD burners and after some time from six months to a year, the DVD burners die out and sometimes there's no up-to-date Firmware to sort the problem out. This has always been with Freecom DVD burners.
I know what is wrong. I've asked this 'n that now and then and I was told to try this 'n that and some replies mentioned the golden rules of burning even though I know how to to it. Some DVD burners can malfuntion as in die out and Firmware can't even help because sometimes the Firmware isn't updated to download that makes the user as in the customer stuck. The DVD burner can cause everything to go wrong where it burns wrong that causes playback to go wrong.
I did say I always buy Plus and Minus DVD burners and the first problem is ALWAYS the DVD burner fails to burn properly on Minus discs they they playback with broken picture and freezing. Minus discs always start the first problem. Plus discs can still work OK about 90% of the time but there are some other problems such as some DVDs not wanting to play at all or they eject themselves after the recording has finished.
I exchanged my Mr. Bean DVD burner today and I got a new one. I can burn on Minus discs and they play 100% and the same mostly with Plus discs. I said "mostly with Plus discs" because they never mess about so much. Minus discs are weak and that's why they go wrong first as in so easy. This has nothing to do with the make of Minus and Plus discs because any of these problems can happen with any make and that means with the well-known makes such as Maxell, TDK, BASF and Sony. After me going through this before a couple of times and finding out a new DVD burner makes things work well 100%, I know what I'm talking about. Remember, the time I had this problem before recently, there was no up-to-date Firmware that Freecom SHOULD have got available. I understand not everyone wants to buy from Freecom but I believe this can happen with any DVD burner no matter what the makes are.
I remember my first DVD burner that went. It wouldn't play, burn or load anything from a DVD but from a CD was fine and there was no Firmware available to update it.
Any of this can also happen with a DVD burner that only excepts Minus discs only or Plus discs only.
Darren.
