dvdrw and cdrw drives wetn wacky

get this guys, i had to reload xp media center was having severe driver issues and couldnt figure it out anyway when i did everything was great then when i went to install norton 360 the drives quit working.
when system boots it shows them there, even under device manager, but when i doublke click my computer, nothing.
Any ideas from anyone please?
the dvd rw is a nec nd 1300a
cant remember the other but was worjking great before i cant even load any discs to finish install very agrivating please help thanks.

check all your jumpers and connections, that's an awfully old drive, sure it isn't just dying?

there are few of those still working(nec1300)
