How do i play this video???

I can find no programs that play this certain type of AVI file. Of course, something must exist, because the guy i got the vids from has 50+ of them, so hes obviously watching them somehow.

All i know is that the file is a .avi, and i cannot open it with IRfan32, winamp, windows media player (up to date), divx, nor AVS dvd player. How do i find out more about this file ? I checked properties, but that really doesnt show anything besides the file's being an AVI. Please help.

Doesnt work. I dragged the file into the VLC player. THen the slidebar moved from start to finish in about 8 seconds (the actual length of the video is about 1 hour). There was no video nor sound .

Use MediaInfo to find out which video and audio codec the AVI file uses:

http://www.digital-digest.com/software/mediainfo.html

In the "First video stream" section, the thing listed after "fps" is the video codec. Similarly, the last thing listed in the "First audio stream" section is the audio codec. You can then go a google search to find the codec you need, or you can post the info here and I can find a link for you.

I dont know what you mean by first video stream section. I see no such area. I chose "select a multimedia file to study". The info on the file reads as

Expand it by clicking on the + sign.
Now paste a screenshot(preferably in 'tree' view).
