        Invest in the best.

Would not want to spoil your gift to yourself but I would invest on Sony and Samsung HDTV. They are the best. Actually Samsung is made by Sony.

Save up for the Samsung BR7, although I have to admit, I know nothing about that brand. You have the brand name, do you know the model #, if you do, you should google it & maybe it will tell you more, like who actually makes it.

It probably wouldn't be that bad of a TV... http://www.afterdawn.com/hardware/pr...ax_olevia_232v

I just bought a VIZIO 47" and it looks and works great.

They make a 32" that will be on sale at Sears on Black Friday for $598

Shop Sears for appliances, tools, clothing, mattresses & more. Great name brands like Kenmore, Craftsman Tools, Serta, Diehard and many others.

$200 more than you want to spend, but might be worth it in the long run.

I would make sure it is 1080P capable HDTV. I would not buy any HDTV without the capable 1080p. 1080i will be outdated before you know it.

For me I would spend the extra money and get 1080p over 1080i.

I would say that if you can get a TV that has a native resolution of 1080p, then that would be preferred. But if price is a concern, and if the size you are looking at is 32", then a 720p would be fine as well. Most people won't be even able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p unless they are sitting right up to the TV. Whether or not the 720p display has an 1080p input, it's not a huge concern since all inputs will get downscaled internally to 720p. It would be a "nice to have" feature, but by no means 100% essential if the display is not 1080p native. Pretty much every device that supports 1080p output will have a 1080i output (eg. Blu-ray/HD DVD player), since the majority of TVs out there do not yet have 1080p inputs.

What is essential is HDMI input, which I see the TV has. It only has one, but you can always extend that by getting a HDMI switch (Joytech makes a cheap and good one, or if you want go to the expensive route, get an AV Receiver with HDMI inputs).

                    Input Compatible:1080i/480p/480i/720p
Being it has 720p and not 1080p wouldn't this be alright to get ?

1080i will be outdated before you know it.

I wouldn't worry too much about not having 1080p as there has been no talk or anything written about the networks revamping there HD broadcasts to 1080p anytime soon or ever for now..

unless you plan to hook up a HD or BlueRay dvd player to your tv, your not missing anything..
It's the same ole story.. bigger is better...
we went thru this with computers bigger processors then digital cameras [megapixels, etc..
much of it is still marketing..
1080i is stunning but now everyone is being told you gotta get 1080p and most people will never see the difference unless they have a 60" or higher tv and sit 15 feet or more away from the tv
this basically means that at 1080p you can have 60"or higher and sit way back and still see as sharp a picture[ not a better picture] as I do 10 feet away at 1080i with a 42"
Think of it as a compensating boost for bigger size and further distance.

As far as tv's go, we have had a Panasonic Plasma for 2 yrs now, watched a gazillion movies,[many in widescreen with bars at top] and have no signs at all of the famous Plasma burn-in..[this btw occured mostly in the earlier days of Plasma and is still used as a marketing[ that word again] tool to sell LCD and rear projections..
Many LCD tv's and rear projection models still fade when viewed from a side angle[ that's what's called a direct view tv] where as a plasma looks the same from any angle..
Here in Pennsylvania Boscov's is selling 50" Panasonic Plasmas for 999.00 between 5am -12pm Friday morning.
our Panny cost 2300.00 2yrs ago..
I;m almost crazy enough to buy another one and keep it in
the box for the day this one dies but my wife axed that..
whatever you get though you won't be dissapointed when you start viewing your favorite network shows in 720 or 1080i HD.

Yes, the TV has all the inputs that you would need. 1080p would be nice to have, but it would be more of a gimmick than anything else. The only devices that uses 1080p right now is Blu-ray or HD DVD, and these always come with 1080i/720p output anyway.
