It all depends on your TV's scaler though. Some TVs are advertised as superior scaling chips, and you'll find that these will have great looking picture whether you feed it 720p or 1080i. The really poor scalers actually take a 1080i signal, turn it into 540p and then scale up to 720p, which is why sometimes 1080i inputs look worse than 720p inputs.

My TV is only 1080i and my PS3 looks great playing movies on my LCD Vizio.Just a thought but did you go in to your PS3 settings and select Settings/Video Output Settings and select HDMI,Component and so on.Your PS3 my not be set on HDMI as it's output connection and that could cause your blank screenComment

I've been experimenting with the PS3 video settings, especially with the RGB Full mode - seems to look better on my TV, better colour range and contrast. I've settled on 1080i output, which allows my TV to engage in 3:3 pulldown (72 Hz playback), to get rid of the 3:2 judder. I just need more Blu-ray movies to watch (come on Sony, when are my free movies coming??)Comment

I was wondering about the RGB Full mode but I was hesitating to mess with it do to my fear of ruining something.Being I seen your post I decided to go for broke and I was glad I did I really like the way it looks compared to the limited setting.I am waiting for my 5 freebies also the only Blu-ray movies I have right now is Casino Royale and Ratatouille .Comment
