    Phillips Home Cinema System Sound???

Hi i just purchased a Phillips Home Cinema system set it up and all works great apart from i get no sound from the TV to the cinema system. I have it connected to the tv via a HDMI-HDMI connection. Does anyone has any idea why sound would not be being received to the system?? Sound is being sent to the tv when playing a dvd!!

Check your tv settings and make sure the output is set to on.

My guess is that you have not connected a RCA cable from the TVout to the RCA input on the system.

        Hi,

Thanks for the replies I cannot find any options to turn output on/off in my TV setting which is a Samsung the only mention in the instruction manual is that the internal mute option will need to be on! I have tried this with the same out come.

Sorry what is a RCA cable??? The only cable connecting the cinema system to the tv is the HDMI lead!

It is a type of cable that is used to connect components,(like a casstte deck) to a stereo receiver/amplifier. You can get the cables at like a radio shack.

Your TV's HDMI connector is most likely for input only, not for output. If you want to hear the TV's sound through your sound system, there should be a separate audio output port on your TV (using RCA/composite cable - the yellow/red/white type connector). Some TVs also have an optical/SPDIF audio output port that you can connect to your sound system.

Note that at best, you will only get stereo/pro-logic audio. To get multi-channel audio, you need to connect the device straight to the receiver, as opposed to going through the TV.

For example, if you've connected a PS3 through HDMI to your TV, and then used the optical audio output to connect the TV to the receiver, you will only get stereo audio on the receiver. If you connected the optical audio output from the PS3 straight to your receiver, then you get multi-channel (5.1) audio.
