Improving a Digital Video Audio Track?

I have a digital video in .AVI format with some distortion (from over-miking?)
in the audio track.

Is there some freeware program out there with which I can push the audio track through, to clean it up?

I do have Sound Forge Audio Studio 8, but all it has for that kind of task (as far as I can tell) is its Express FX Audio Restoration plug-in used only for scratchy vinyls...
