    8mm player

    Hi Guy's
I"m new to your forum so g'day from lovely downtown Sydney in the great OZland!
I wonder if any locals would know where I could buy or borough an 8mm tape player. I have hundreds of tapes that I now have the time to catalog but I don't fancy running them all through my camera. I'm also after buying a cheap beta vcr/player.

    Any help gratefully recieved,

    Aussie bob

There are many used 8mm recorders for sale on Ebay but they command anywhere from $250- $450.00 american.

the set top bigger models are in the 250 range.
the portable smaller models are in the 450.00 and above range.

    most are Sony..
No one made an [alone] 8mm player.
they were all 8mm video recorders.
same as the old vhs recorders you hooked up to your tv.
you just inserted 8mm tape and recorded your tv show onto that.
the set top units were actually about the same size as a standard vhs recorder.
It's still way much cheaper to hook up your old camcorder to your pc[ via analog converter or video card.

Or hook up to a VCR and transfer to that.

I bought a used 8mm camcorder[ mine died yrs ago] for like next to nothing to do my transfers as opposed to spending 250.00.
You still have to hook up your A/V connections [red/white/yellow] for playback either way you go..
Not going to save any real amount of time.

Have a friend who didn't want to wear out his working Sony 8mm camcorder so he bought a used model on ebay very cheap to do transfers also...
