Which version(s) of Nero will work with AVCHD? & if I record standard then is that

AVC format? Which Nero would support this? I think I'd rather record standard because I hear that for youtube purposes HD makes zero differnece.

Also, Windows movie maker doens't support AVC or AVCHD so how would I convert to a file they do support?

    Thanks!!!!

I think AVCHD support has been added in the last two versions of Nero (specifically part of Nero Vision). AVCHD is a file format that is predominantly used in camcorder recordings and also home made HD discs (basically "Blu-ray lite"). The format uses the MPEG-4 AVC (h.264) codec for video. You can encode to MPEG-4 AVC (SD) using Nero Recode, the "Nero Digital" format is their version of AVC. AVC and AVCHD are basically two different things (AVCHD is not the HD version of AVC, rather, AVCHD is a file/disc format that has been built using AVC technology).

For day to day work, AVI is still the way to go, as most applications support it (whereas few support AVCHD, MP4 ...)

      Q regarding AVCHD &

thanks so much for your reply. I just have a few quick questions. I just bought the camera yesterday so may return it if it's too much of a headache. But sounds like I can use it with Nero Vision? What two versions of Nero Vision are you referring to? Which #'s? So if I wanted to use it in movie maker I'd have to convert the file to one it supports? havent ever done that.

I am completely new to this stuff and when I see the word codecs it makes me kind of sick because we had so many issues with them with the exception of one cannon thats no longer made and not ours. What camera would you recommend thats a good price, for easy editing, for youtube videos? One that uses an easy universal codecs? What recording method is best? mini DV? Hard drive? i assume dvd and flash card are not the way to go? my current Panasonic camera uses both of those.

I'm wondering if it even makes a difference if I use HD if youtube will compress the video to the point it wont make a diff? I can record standard too, but only on the memory card, or the dvd, i forget now. If I record standard then would be it be called an AVC file that is better supported?

      Thanks again!

Nero Vision 5 and later definitely supports AVCHD.

Not too familiar with AVCHD on camcorders though, or cameras in general, but actually just read a small article on it (it was in a magazine, don't think it's online) so I will give you some tips in regards to movie editing software. Ulead VideoStudio 11, Pinnacle Studio 11, Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 all supports AVCHD. Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Premier Elements 4 do not.

Once you get the movie into one of these video editors, then you should be able to export/convert them to any other format you wish (AVI, DVDs, possibly Blu-ray or AVCHD discs for use in Blu-ray players).

thanks, though i guess im not understanding. if these editing programs support this new avchd, then why do i have to convert ?

if i wanted to use windows movie maker could i if i converted to the file formats they accept and how does one go about doing that?

the only place i could find the right codec for was $29, i dont want to spend that.
