The sound stream is possibly in one of these formats: WMA, MP3 or AC-3.

For MP3, I trust your system is capable of playing MP3 sounds. For WMA, try having 3.11 installed in the system along with the hacked WMA codec. For AC3, have a software DVD players, like PowerDVD or WinDVD, installed. Alternatively, install the AC3 codec from either the Nimo or Tsunami codec pack.

              agnesana77,

What is the file extension of these files you are trying to play (i.e. .avi, .mpg, .rm, etc.)?

some are avi and some mpeg you see i was able to hear them before but now i can only see them so i'm thinking that i deleted the supporting audio codec that i had by accident and now i don't know how to get it back.
But i don't understand what i need to do also to make them work in divx i can see or hear them?

Load these files into Virtualdub and go to File -> File Information. Alternatively you can use GSpot.

Post a screenshot of the window you get here.

                        No, you don't.

The purpose of using Virtualdub or GSpot is to find out what we need to install in order to play these files. They aren't meant for playing media files.

Now please do as I asked.

i'm sorry i don't know how to post a screenshot as i'm new to this but i downloaded gspot and this is what it said in the codec section.
                          4cc: div3 name: divx3 low-motion

and when i clicked on more information it said 2 compatible codecs installed (more info)
and when i clicked the name was
                          divx decoder filter (twice)

do you know what i need to download to get my sound back i have downloaded divx but that's not it cause it's still not working??????

Use the Alt- Print Screen button to get a screenshot of the open GSpot or Virtualdub window. Paste that screenshot onto an image editor (Windows Paint will do) and save it as a file. Attach that file here.

                            Cheers.
