No sound from recorded TV

A friend's having trouble recording sound from the incoming TV with a video card (ATI TV Wonder 200 / Software: ATI Catalyst Media Center).

The sound wire is hooked up correctly in the back, we hear the sound just fine when playing the TV off the tuner, but after recording a segment of video, there's no sound when playing it in a regular media player.

Any ideas what to do? There's audio settings, but not for input, only for speakers and the like.

Download a small tool named GSpot and analyze the file in question using it. See if there is any sound at all available. If yes, what is the codec and whether it is installed in your PC.

Fixed the prob.

I went under sound/audio devices in the control panel ---> Audio ---> Sound Recording ---> Volume ---> Line In....and had found the volume turned all the way down.
