    Overburning

I have nero burning rom I would like to overburn. I have a 733 mb mpeg 1 file, which I want to simple burn as a data cd (I don't intend to watch in on my dvd player, because I have none ). On the other hand, which would be "safer" (making a good movie that isn't corrupt) burning as a vcd or as a regular data cd?

What time should i specify in NERO, I have a 700 mb 80 min cd? Also NERO, claims that this could damage your cd-r or even cd-drive, is that true and a dangerous reality?

    Thanks in advance

Fitting 733 MB on a 80 min media is probably stretching it.
Setting nero to burn a maximum of 84 min should be enough to fit 733 MB.

You need to figure out if your drive support overburning. Simply doing a search on google, with the name of the drive and the word overburn should tell you this.

I have a Plexwriter8/4/32 and a Liteon40/12/48, they both support overburning, but I have never burned more than 706MB to a 700MB media.

      Thank-you for the fast reply:

"There are 2 ways to find out, one just burn, second use Feurio. It just does a test burn until your writer gives an error."

Have you used Fuerio? If so, is it accurate. Would it be worthwhile for me to give it a try?

At doom9.org forums, they said it was common practice, and this is easily attainable. My friend, in Germany, burned a 743 mb disc. Does the disc make a difference? I have a 24x 80 min spindle, with 100 cd's.

No, sorry. I guess I'am a bit conservative when it comes to overburning, CD-R media is rather expensive here in denmark, it simply is'nt worth risk of making coasters, just to fit a few more MB on each disc.

I read on a Futurama board, about astronomical levies and taxes on cd-r's to supposedly compensate artisits, and media companies. Well, at least here in Canda they're cheap, in the US, even cheaper. The cost per cd for me, comes to 33 cents, so not an expensive test I guess even if I burn coasters. I'll check feurio, it does a test, but doesn't actually burn.

33 cens for a CD-R, sounds like heaven to me, here the price is more like 2 us dollars. Currently the best workaround for this is to get them on mail order from germany which brings the price down to about 75 cents or so.

I used to pay $1 per cd, it came with jewel cases. However, I switeched over to a spindle, for the obvious price benefit, 33 cents is a great price, even if I have to make coasterd I used some 33 discs, and not a bad disc yet.

$2 usd is expensive its like $3 cdn. Its probably because of royalties and taxes right? here they might raise taxes again which drives me mad.

Yes the 2$ price is caused by the taxes and royalties to copyright holders.

                    It is quite sad ...

Getting the CD's on order from the US is of course possible, but with transport and shipping and import taxes, the price would probably rise to over 50 cents per CD-R. Plus deliveries take forever and getting a refund for defect media would be next to impossible,

Yes! I call for the universal revolution of the proletariat (however that's spellt) To ensure that each and every individual recieves free cd's, to "each according to his needs and to each according to his abilities".
