    video bits per second

i've seen in this forum people that say you need to calculate
bits per second with video in multiples of
    *8
    *16
    *32
what could happen if i try use multiples of *32 and it was too big for my cd by 4 mb. would it hurt the video if i encoded it with the multiple of *8 that is close to that overall *32 sum?
it breaks down with a decimal when devided by *32, but hits a perfect whole number when devided by *8. i've never done this before? i'm despirate to have it fit, but unwilling to loose quality.

I think you are mistaking 'bits' for resolution. The above case is true for resolutions, but definitely not for bits. I've always been using a variety of bits without encountering a 'bit-related' problem.

      resolution?

      explain more on resolution.
i just try to make sure the resolution fit the clipping perfectly?
does it have to be in a special size?

That's basically the size of the video (at 1x size, no zooming in or out) you see on-screen. For example, a video can have a resolution of 640x480, 512x384 and so on. Notice that the numbers are divisible by 16 (I always hold onto this theory).

DivX requires that the resolution is of a factor of 16 (or the other numbers you put as well). Otherwise, the result is a video that is not viewable at all.

          not viewable?

does that prevent the filters from showing on a media player or the actual tv's?

Try it out. The result will be so bad it's not funny anymore.

Who had ever problems with wierd resolutions? I encode with a width of 640, 512 or 384 and make the calculated hight dividable by 2. I use DivX3.11 or M$MPEG4v2 and had no problems on any computer. So which computers will have problems if I use hights/widths not dividable by 16?

Did not explain myself clearly enough. I said that I always make sure that my resolutions are divisible by 16 and have always used that for my resolution basis. I know that there are other usable factors as well, but I have nothing against using 16 in the first place and it looks perfectly alright.

p.s. Strange resolutions would be those odd numbers.

                  perfect

tried both mbs change and resolution outside of *16.
                  no difference.
                  good quality all around.
                  what could this mean?
