    gknot?

i see gknot as a gui interface for multiple sub programs.
is there anyway to use only the sub programs to get the same results as when we use gknot? and with those sub programs can we encode into other formats? e.g. asf

What ?, Where did you see that ?, afaik GKnot only support vobsub.

What do you mean ? vobsub only does subtitles, it's not an encoder.

Again, vobsub only does subtitles, if you want to encode the subtitles into the movie you need a vobsub plugin for the encoder program you are using. But of course there is only one such plugin, namely the one for virtualdub.

      innaccurate post

      sorry i wasn't more detailed.
i did not mean subtitle programs.
      i mean sub-programs
like under the main program gknot.
      like nandub, dvd2avi, vstrip, etc.
i will take more caution in my later posts.
please nobody think i'm a digitalfool.
i want to learn how to do it all as percise as gknot, but with only the programs that make up gknot. like the one's listed above.
i believe that some of these programs will give me the capability to unlock more of the digital world.

Ah Ok it makes more senes that way

Yes GKnot is just an interface to a number of other programs.

And yes of course the same results could be achived by using these programs alone, SmartRipper->DVD2AVI->AviSynth->virtualdub/nandub. GKnot just makes it easier, that is the whole point of using GKnot.

And yes of course some of these programs can be used, to preform part of the process needed to transcode to other formats.
I think the best way to do would be to use GKnot, to create an avs script, and perhaps use link2 to create a fake avi file. And load that into what ever conversion tool you need to use.

No, virtualdub does not encode to wm8, you still need to use an encoder that supports wm8, Windows Media Encoder I assume. But as I said, you should be able to use GordianKnot and link2 to create a fake avi file that can be loaded into Windows Media Encoder.

              1) Use SmartRipper to get the VOBs

              2) Use DVD2AVI (w/ VFAPI), open vobs, choose audio, etc, etc - save project.

              3) Use VFAPI reader to make a pseudo-AVI

              4) WM enoder ->video is pseudo-AVI, audio is the WAV file, voila! Outputs WMV.

                wm encoder

doesn't windows media encoder limit the amount of bps you can use to increase the quality of the video and audio?
i believe that is the reason why i was unwilling to use it.
but if i'm incorrect i would love to know.
also isn't the documentation for the use of the wm encoder costly. i want to read the full breakdown of the encode for free to make the encode the best possible.

WM encoder limits bps to whatever you choose. If you choose something high, it'll limit it to something high. So, basically, you can choose what quality you want. Plus, there's no other (legal) way to encode to WMV.

                    wm encoder

do you know where i could find some free info on encoding with the wm encoder?
all the info i found through m$oft cost money

so you use a avi and encode it into wm8?
so you have to encode into divx 5.0.2 before you can encode into wm8. doesn't that take a long time? what exactly do you mean by psuedo avi? a fake avi? would that be similar to a first pass encode making a stat file? does wm encoder encode a better asf then flask? i've seen it posted that the encoder has little to no effect on the end product and that the real determination is the codec? i'm not sure how true that statement is. my divx from flask doesn't even compare to gknot. there is a big difference. so does that mean that wm encoder is worth it to create an avi and then encode to wm8? i would think going from vob~>avi~>asf would be a reduction in quality.
