Mpg Editor?

Does anyone know if there is a program that can actually edit mpg's?
By editing I mean crop/cut some of the start/end of a mpg, kind of like what soundforge does for mp3's. Nothing fancy, just for removing some unwanted info from a mpg.
I hope I explained clearly enough. I am new to the dvd/mpg scene so I am not aware of the correct terminology - yet
