I've an athlon 1,8 G and 512 ram. It takes like 2 hours per one hour of movie iin convert to mpg file, i think it's fine, but i haven't hear 'bout "real time" convertion!!!!
Not even with a dual Pentium processor. Not yet!!

    Luck!!

Key phrase is "Dual Athlons". My Dual 2000+ rig crunches at 30 fps when encoding 23.9XX fps real-time on high quality DIVX 4.12 2-pass with sound.

ok, i can wait. someday a single cpu will be able to do it "realtime" and thats the day this circa feb'99 rig will get replaced, lol.

on another note, since im new here, i guess ill introduce myself
as far as DV goes, im into making VCDs - stuff to play on my dvd changer. as source, i use dvd, vhs, 8mm camcorder. most fun for me is testing the limits of my dvd player - tryin "nonstandard" bitrates, resolutions, etc. if im using dvd as source, i do the conversion totally in software, but from vhs or 8mm, i use an old "dazzle" parallel port device, cappin at its 3000 (is kb/s the right unit? lol) then using tsunami or panasonic to get it somewhere under my player's limit of 2400.

enough ranting for now, ive got to much to say, dont want u folks to fall asleep on me, lol. im just glad to find a place to chat, and i hope to be positive and helpful addition
