    This doesn't sound like it's a DVD.
There should be a VIDEO_TS directory off the root of the disc with VOB files and some more, but I've never heard of one with only (?) .mp2.....
You'd expect a large .dat file with a VCD too.
(VCD directories are many: CDDA, CDI, EXT, KARAOKE, MPEGAV, SEGMENT, VCD... but the business .dat files are in MPEGAV)
I'm sure you knew this already.

mp2 is however a valid (non-DVD) video file extension- My ATI capture card churns them out. I take it you can't play these files though- a single frame of video showing the poster?
How big are they(.mp2 files), and what are the biggest files on the disc? They're your best bet.

      nope no other files
under explorer, it reports that the disc is bout 6+Gigs in size
and u are rite, the mp2 file - is a static picture, bout few hundred kb
but the thing is that disc ccould be played on a dvd player
      farny?

This may sound a little silly, but have you setup explorer to find hidden files/folders?
(tools->folder options->view tab... show hidden files radio button)

I've never heard of DVDs having hidden files but I've always had mine set to show them so I've never noticed.

If it plays on a DVD player then I'm sure it must be a genuine DVD. I've had some similar problems in the past with some multisession CDRs where burnt files were 'missing', but I can't for the life of me relate this to a factory produced DVD.

Does smartripper (or perhaps better, vStrip) find anything?
Can you try it on someone else's computer?

yeah i always turn on the option to show hidden files
ok these are the folders that's in the disc
          video_ts, jacket_p, audio_ts.
3 files .mp2 are located in jacket_p directory

will try to view disc using other comp and see how it turns out

nope cant view on fren's pc either
          help??!!

You should be seeing vobs in the video_ts folder.
            Hmm...
Has any ripping software found any vobs?
I use smartripper but I hear vStrip is good for 'difficult' DVDs.

Jacket_p.... I have no idea what that is unless it's an 'unofficial' addition to the original release. Occasionally they may be nice and include the poster for the film for you to print out. But why mp2????
Unless the posters can be found via the menus before the film... But I would then have expected them to be in vobs in video_ts.

But otherwise I'm stumped. The files are obviously there somewhere (almost certainly in video_ts) as they play in your DVD player separate.
All I can suggest is to try the ripping software above.
            sorry!

***can you play it on your pc? ***(forgot to ask before)
            Anybody else have any ideas?

Unless you want to use the windows recovery disc to boot into dos and do a directory listing from there... If windows is hiding something then you may see it then...
Maybe then you can copy across the relevent vobs and decrypt them... I'm speculating though. It sounds messy.

Just out of curiosity, what's the dvd? And which region- if it's region 2 I'll get it out and have a look too

Never quite made it to the vid shop...
The pub hit sooner than expected.
                    Definately tomorrow.
Good luck with the new disc then!
                    Cheers-

Got out Platoon last night (region 2) and it ripped perfectly well.
I don't know what's going on with yours...
                        Does the replacement copy work?

Did you just change the DVD in the end?
