    Problem in Compression-Somewhat new user

    I have installed Div-x pro 5.02 version in my Win 98 system. When I opened Virtual dub to compress a movie file (.dat),I have selected the video -->Full compression mode.After this i selected the compression to get the compression dialog box. In that dialog I donot see Div-x compression option at all. What should I do?? I have restarted the system,tried installing the software-divxpro 5.02 again but no use. Please help me.

    Strange.

    Check this out. Go into SYSTEM.INI (located in C:\WINDOWS). Look down it for the tag [drivers32]. Under that tag, check to see if you have the following entry:

    vidc.DIVX=DivX.dll

    This is the entry that VirtualDub uses to find the DivX codec. If that line isn't there, the install didn't work.

    Now check C:\WINDOWS/SYSTEM for the file DivX.dll - Same deal. Not there? Bad install.

    Now: If the dll file IS there but the SYSTEM.INI entry isn't, just add that entry to SYSTEM.INI and cross your fingers. Hopefully that'll solve your problem.
    It may look like I'm doing nothing, but actually, at a cellular level I'm quite busy.
