Newbie needs help on software

Iam so stumped, I got a HP pavilion 9600 and had to fdisk and format because there was some graphic stuff all through the thing and I didn't want my daughter to get into any of it. I have found all drivers for sound,ect but when it come to the DVD stuff Im lost as to the software that is needed. Could someone please give a helping hand as to which software to use? I have installed cinemaster that was on the 98SE Cd but there is something wrong because it won't play the movie it freezes. I am only beginning and will help others as I learn more.

Are you trying to play DVD movies on the system? If so, try getting your hands on either PowerDVD or WinDVD. Both are worthy players. What player were you using before the formatting?

Thanks for the reply , as to the your ? about what was being used before the format I think it was cinemaster it was the only thing I could find pertaining to the DVD player. This is a new world for me I never even dreamed all the stuff that you can do with one of these DVD's, I'll I knew was my daughter wanted one. I will try the programs you sugested thank you very much. I see that I have alot more reading to do this is very interesting stuff.
