In order to determine which codec(s) you need for a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

      Hi setarip,

      Thnx for the reply.

I scouted the net for virtualdub & found it. I use Windows XP & i guess Virtualdub is not XP compatible.

Is there any other way i can find out the info u need.

If it helps the name of the file reads 'aaa.dvdrip.xvid-deity.avi'

      Thnx

        It is compatible with WinXP.

From the look of the filename, you need the xvid codec.

          Hi guys,
thnx for the tip. I get it.
However, the problem is solved for now. I just changed the the Four CC of the file to DIVX using the AVI Four CC & the file plays now.

          Thnx
