    DVDs not playing on set top DVD player

    I have downloaded a DIVx file. I then uncompressed the audio and then converted to a MPEG2 (dvd compliant) file using TPMG. I then authored this file using Spruce Up. Then I burned this with NERO 5.5. The resultant DVD will play on my PC but not on my DVD player or my Xbox.

    Is there a step in the process that I am missing that will enable me to play these DVDs on a standard (phillips) dvd player.

    Any help would be appreciated as I have lost track of how many blank DVDs I am wasting using trial and error.

    Thanks in advance to you all

    Without addressing the myriad possibilities that could arise from the procedures you've used, I would first ask if you KNOW whether your standalone is capable of recognizing burned (rather than COMMERCIAL) media - and if so, if it only recognizes certain BRANDS of media.

    You might want to check out your specific standalone's capabilities at:

    Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

      Thanks for coming back. I have managed to play copied DVDs on my dvd player. These were produced by first ripping DVD (when required update through rempeg) and then writing and authoring through DVDit.

      I have checked my DVD player on the site you recommended and it has mixed reviews to say the least. It is a Philips 710.

      I appreciate that I am probably doing loads wrong with the above method and am just trying to work this out. Any advice you could give would be much appreciated and sorry for coming across as so dumb.

        "sorry for coming across as so dumb."

        The only "dumb" question is the one you don't ask ;>}

        You'll probably get more meaningful answers by posting your question at one of the DVD-related subforums here...
