I am converting AVI files downloaded which have XVID-DEITY in the title. Everything else I do allows me to unpack audio with Virtuadub and then convert to MPEG2 file with TPMGenc. However for the ones that XVID-DEITY in the title it freezes TPMGenc. Is there a special codec I need for these files, I think I have downloaded virtually every Xvid one I can find.
If not does anyone know of a conversion program that is better than or equal to TPMGenc.
The XVID-Deity films play on my PC using powerdvd player when they are still in AVI format.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Try getting the NimoCodec Pack, although i doubt it will help anything since you can already play them using powerdvd. But make sure to get the codec pack and after try this:
Open AVI file in Virtualdub.
There will be an error message if VBR Audio is present about improper VBR encoding.
Hit OK to Continue.
Click on Audio menu and select "Full Processing Mode."
Click on Audio menu and select "Conversion."
Make sure Sampling Rate is 48000Hz, Precision is 16 bit, Channels is Stereo, if not, change them.
Click on file menu and select "Save as WAV."
Name the file and click OK When done, Click on Audio menu and select "No Audio."
Click on Video menu and select "Direct Stream Copy."
Click on File menu and select "Save as AVI."
(You are saving a silent avi file with no audio)
Name the file something different than the original, click OK and sit back.
Close Virtualdub and re-open it.
Click on the file menu and select "Open AVI" and open the silent AVI file you just created.
Click on Video menu and select "Direct Stream Copy."
Click on Audio menu and select "WAV Audio."
Choose the WAV file you created earlier.
Click on File menu and select "Save as AVI", name the file something different and click OK.

After this is done, you have an AVI file with WAV audio (no VBR MP3 anymore) suitable for direct usage with TMPGEnc.

By the way, XVID-DEITY are a movie releasing group that use their own XviD mpeg-4 codec. You should be able to get that one from the same place were you get your movies, just search for it

I finally got a chance to try the solution mentioned here. I followed the instructions and before trying to stick it through TPMGenc I made sure the file worked on powerdvd and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately when I then went to stick it through TPMGenc it froze again.
I tried searching on Kazaa to see if there was an XVID-DEITY codec as you mentioned they used thier own version but could not find anything. Again, I would assume that if it plays ok on powerdvd it is not the codec.
Does anyone have another proposed solution or if not know of a another AVI to MPEG2 converter which is as good as TPMGenc. I have not seen any though.

As for the freezing of TMPGenc, make sure to get the most recent version here, although i dont think tmpgenc is the problem, but get the newest version anyway. I know that diety files have long filenames, simple suggestion: try renaming the file to something smaller. But more importantly, make SURE that you have enough free space on whatever disk you have tmpgenc installed on for output files. Lastly, if you have another drive on ur pc, install tmpegenc there and see if it helps. It is a wierd situation though that those certain files dont work. Do you have the NimoCodec pack installed? If not search for it on kazaa...

Sorry i left it late!

I have had the same problems you mention and tried everything suggested.
Although there is always plenty of help on the forum I have not seen a reply that says I have done this and I have sorted the problem. Which means nobody either wants to convert diety stuff to play on a DVD player or nobody can.

Diety means God-like and these guys seem to believe it! It may be fun to get open source code and tune it for your wants..but surely they have seen enough posts all over various P2P related forum to know that their tailored codec is ...to us idiot users..crap!

Is it beyond their capacity to release a codec they have created to allow other to sort the files out? I have adopted my own cure to the Diety-X-Vid Codec problem- I don't download the files. I wait for a "normal" version to show.

Beware X-Vid codecs on KaZaA and other P2P Downloads, some have the W-32 trojan. Some are re-named to imitate the original "good guy" x-vid codec packs.

Well, i actually did convert an XviD-Deity movie this weekend, and it worked fine for me using Tmpgenc. BUt since now i know that you just want to make an s/vcd out of the movie, then there are numerous other programs you can use, but before, try this in Tmpgenc: Try first to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try opening the video after that. BUt if it still doesnt work, then tell me whether you are converting to vcd or svcd to watch on your dvd player. Ill get back to you

Following your post re changing VFAPI setting in TMPGEnc..

In my copy the direct show file reader setting is -1 and no amount of clicking opens any window or allows change odf this setting....any idea

As i saw from your screenshot, they seem to be blackened out.
When you are trying to change the settings for that, be sure to not have a process in tmpgenc running. When you start up tmpgenc, make sure to click "cancel" on the wizard, then go to environmental setting and change the options. Let me know if it works

I also Have been having problems with tmpgenc freezing on one file i have tried changing the direct show file reader to a higher setting i have also tried saving a wav and a silent avi and joining them in tmpgenc ihave tried different versions of it also same result it stops responding i use xp.. this is the file information:
