    conversion

I was wondering if there is a way to convert existing MPEG2 vidio files to DIVX?

VirtualDub can do this. Simply load up the movie file into it and select "save avi", but before set the audio and video to "full processing mode".

your statement is not entirely correct!

      virtualdub WONT touch mpeg2 files!

vd-MOD, which is the version you're linking to, can open VOB files but i doubt (thouigh not verified that) it'll open mpg files.

frameserving mpgs with vfapi or avs into vd, nandub or vd_mod, however DOES work!

Whoops! Forgot it was Mpeg-2, i was thinking about mpeg-1 Anyway, as uncas stated, NanDub, a modified version of VirtualDub, can read mpeg-2 files.

No, nandub cannot open MPEG-2 files directly either.

Actually, VirtualDubMod does not seem able to open MPEG-2 files as well. Frameserving would be a better alternative:
          1. Create DVD2AVI (D2V) project file from the MPEG-2 file
          2. Use a frameserver (vFAPI or Avisynth) and open in Virtual/nandub

          That should do it.

Simply use any of the programs that are typically used for DVD to DivX conversion - Flask, Mediator, the Gordian Knot system, etc. (or even TMPGEnc)...

Ok, now I'm confused, I remember i also once had a question about these mpeg-2 files and what program can open them. And i clearly remember someone stated a VDub mod...

                "someone stated a VDub mod"

The operative word is "a" - NOT the recently released VirtualDubMod v1.14.3...

Just rename them to *.vob. (The dev. don't know a way to distinguish between mpeg1 and mpeg2 files, that's why you can't load mpeg2 files directly.)
