I do have a quicktime player, but when attempted to open it, the error is that it can't find some of the software to open this file. (it has opened will and grace before, so i know it works...) pls advise.

"media player wont' play, it is in quicktime format.."

How did you determine that the file is in Quicktime format?

(The ".ftv" probably stands for "From television")

That icon only means that, for some reason, your computer is associating the extender ".rats-ftv" with the QuickTime Player - which may or may not be correct.

Just for the heck of it, try the following:

            1) Load the file into VirtualDub or NanDub

            2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

            3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The file you download is from a release group called "FTV". They release tv-episodes, and only in .mpg format, so the file you got *could* be fake if its in .mov format.

Are you sure the file is complete? If a group releases a file, they usually work...try playing it in windows media player.

It may be in MPEG2 format, which VirtualDub can't handle - and which, without extra filters/codecs Windows Media Player can't either. Change the extender from ".ftv" to ".mpg" and try playing the file with a software DVD player, such as WinDVD or PowerDVD.
