help please

ok...here goes.i have tried several differant ways to burn a cd using many differant programs and using many differant guides from dvd digest etc. i keep ending up with the same results...not enough space on the medium that im trying to use...cd-r...700 mb. currently using dvd decryptor, dvd2avi, tmpgenc, and nero burning rom...im following the guides exactly,using whatever programs they say to use...with the current programs that im using, everything works very nicely till i get to nero burnin..it tells me that it is not formatted to mpeg 1....well dvd2avi is mpeg 2...i just dont get it....running windows xp and now im ready just to give up...please dont give me a link to read the digest....i have already many times...is there anyone on this forum that will take the time to understand and help me solve this without telling me to go to the digest...thank you for your time...

Your post is rather unclear.

Are you trying to create an MPEG2-Super VideoCD or an MPEG1-VideoCD (for playback on a standalone DVD player for viewing on your television)

OR

Either an MPEG2 or MPEG1 file (for viewing on your PC)?

thank you for replying....i would like to create an mpeg1 video cd..for playback on television....my standalone dvd player says that is one of the types of formatting it will support, but i understand that mpeg1 vcds quality is not as good as svcd...is there a way to get the better quality and be able to use it on my player...and which programs would i use for either...please forgive me for the ignorate questions, but i have so many programs downloaded and so many utilities and have tried so many differant ways that i really cant remember one from the other...again thanks

Search the forum or consult the vcdeasy website for information on the "vcd header trick". You may be able to play svcd files by supposedly "tricking" your player into believing that the file is actually a vcd.

Apart from that, if possible, you can try to create an (x)vcd or cvd (www.vcdhelp.com for detailed information). TMPGEnc also makes available a wide variety of filters that may improve quality but also increase encoding time.

Try the following:

From Ripping through VCD (by me)

1) Rip DVD with DVDDecrypter

2) Convert to .AVI using Flask or MPEGMediator
A) Using DivX v.3.11 codec (Fast Motion 910kbps, keyframe every 10 seconds) or other DivX codec, or Xvid codec, or 3IVX codec
B) Using PCM (uncompressed) audio at 48,000Hz (Maintains synchronization of audio and video)

3) Load .AVI into VirtualDub
A) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
B) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
C) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion", select "44,100Hz" (or 48,000Hz, if this doesn't present a playback problem for you)
D) Under "Audio", click on "Compression" select "MP3", "44,100Hz" (or 48,000Hz), "96Kbps" (or higher)
E) Save revised .AVI with new filename

Then, to create a VCD:

1) Load .AVI file into TMPGEnc
2) Set to "System Video and Audio" (lower right side)
3) Click on "Setting" radio button
4) Click on "System" tab, change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD" (from default of "MPEG1")
5) Click on "Advanced" tab, change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"), change dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240
6) Change "Source aspect ratio" to either "4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)", "4:3 525 line (NTSC)", or "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" - If you're in the PAL world choose either of the two similar PAL settings instead
7) Under the "Video" tab, change the dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240 (Note: "Video" tab mode of "MPEG1" is okay) - for highest quality set "Motion Search Precision" to "Highest Quality". Change the "Aspect Ratio" to match, as closely as possible, the "Source Aspect Ratio" you set under the "Advanced" tab.
8) Change "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)"
9) Under the "Audio" tab, set to 44,100 224Kbps
10) Press "Start"

(Or, instead of the steps 1)-10) above, you could attempt to use TMPGEnc's VCD "wizard"/template)

Note that if your video runs longer than 60 minutes, you'll have to subsequently split your VCD-MPG file in two. This too can be easily and precisely accomplished using TMPGEnc. Under the "Files" dropdown menu, click on "MPEG Tools" and select the "Merge & Cut" tab. Once again, make sure to change the mode to "MPEG1-Video CD". Load your file and enter a new (.MPG) name in the "Output file" box. Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL file's name in the window, which will bring you to the cutting area. Select your desired start and end points for the first half, click on "Okay" which will bring you back to the first window and generate (in a sequence of three automated steps) the first new file. To create the second new file, repeat the steps starting with "Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL..." (be extra patient with the second half, as the program has to do more seeking to establish the beginning of the new file).

Use a burning program, such as NERO to burn your CD-R or R/W CD as a VCD (DON'T ask NERO to format the file as a VCD, since you've already accomplished this!)

aaaahhh....thank you setarip for the guide....finally i burned my first video cd.....although its much like a bad recording using vhs....

edges are somewhat grainy and movement is blurry, i guess you could say...hard to describe....if you have any suggestions for a better video burn, i would certaintly appreciate it...again thanks....im so excited

Have you viewed it on a television via standalone DVD player (as VCDs are intended to be viewed), or only on your PC?


On your next attempt, you might try using the recently released 3IVX codec (instead of the DivX codec) - and since you know that you'll be converting the .AVI to MPEG1-VideoCD (and not retaining the .AVI and, therefore, not concerned about the .AVI filesize), set the 3IVX codec to "100% quality". All other procedures remain the same.

setarip.....thank you so much, quality is 75% better...burned about 10 min. worth, but audio is not in english.....only thing i used differant was the 3IVX codec....have no files to open to change language under 3IVX codec....once again....help?

Under either Flask ("Open DVD", NOT "Open File") or MPEGMediator (after loading .VOBs, click on the "Audio" dropdown menu), you have the ability to select which audiostream you want to use.

Normally, the first audiostream (0x80) is the English version - but you may have come upon the odd DVD that uses a different sequencing...

youre an angel sent from heaven....again i cant thank you enough..you just dont know how long ive been trying to do this... and finally with your patience i have succeded....its really very difficult for someone like me who has no knowledge of dvd,video cd etc. stuff.....one could download, read, print till their blue in the face....and still just cant understand what all is needed...i appreciate all your help....

hi setarip....ok...audio is all good now, but still have this oil painting look on solid objects, like when you use a digital camera and display on ebay......although quality is so much better, still dont have that smooth movement from scene to scene....kinda messes with your eyeballs....any suggestions on this?
