Old 300mhz PII needs a region-free DVD player!

I am looking for a region-free DVD player for my old Gateway G6-300mhz PII.

Is there a software DVD player that will work with such an under-powered system?

Will a software DVD player work even though a hardware DVD decoder is installed?

Is there a region-free way to use the existing Mpact DVD Decoder? (I tried Remote Selector but it appears to only work with the Mpact2)

    I have the following components:

    Intel PII 300mhz processor
    Intel PII ATX motherboard
    192mb RAM
STB Velocity 128 3D AGP (nVidia Riva 128 AGP) 4mb
Chromatic Research Mpact Media Processor DVD Decoder Card (Unfortunately Remote Selector only works with the Mpact2)
    SB AudioPCI 64V
    Toshiba SD-M1102 firmware version 1026 - 2x DVD-ROM

    TIA,

    J.T.

I believe you'll have difficulty effectively playing DVDs on this system.

Would an inexpensive nVidia card w/TV out work?

Would an inexpensive nVidia card with MPEG2 Hardware acceleration work with this system and a software DVD player?

Would this be a good replacement for the Mpact Decoder card?

I do not yet have enough to replace this system, but I would be willing to put no more than a $100 into it for region free playback. Do you have any suggestions?

      Thanks,

      J.T.
