which decoder should I use for xp

I have recently upgraded a 9680c pavilion from 98se to xp pro, I need a decoder for the dvd rom and I dont know which one to use, any suggestions?

Decoder for what type of source? For DVD, a DVD player software, such as PowerDVD, will work nicely. For DivX/XviD, the appropriate decoder or FFDShow will work nicely. For AC3 decoding in AVI files, the appropriate AC3 filter, available from most codec packs, will work nicely.
