    New User..... ME :)

Well I would like to say hello to everyone here. I joined up cuz I am about to enter the world of dvd. Well burning etc. I am pretty computer literate and hope to not make an arse outa myself.

My first question for you all, and I know this is asked all the time but, Is there a dual layer 8.5GB DVD-R etc out there? I could have sworn hearing a while back that someone had one then discontinued it. Am I mistaken?

Was there ever a dual layer burner out? This guy even gave me a model #. As dumb as I am, I never wrote it down....lol Guess I'll research it more. What is the reasoning behind a 4.7GB cap on dvd-r's?

The 5 layers are supposed to be out later this year, but it's not looking like it's gonna happen...

oh well, small steps, small steps.

blu ray is announced to be released later this year in japan.

let's see if it makes into the dvd successor.

Sony's stand alone Blu-Ray recorder at about $4000 dollers here.

Dual layer burners are not possible as these dual layered discs are "pressed" in the factory. They are not actually "Burned" like our single layered friends. So these type of recorders will not appear anytime soon

Well they need to have DVD roms that could read/write from the top and bottom on a regular DVD so you could have a 2 layer CD and still read/write just as much.

k sorry for my misunderstanding the reason I had the top and bottom reader idea was becuase who wants to get up during a movie and flip it over? Or have the movie die right at the good part?

i think that it would not be so bad to do that because you can control where you want to pause, and it would be fine.

also, it is like avi files that are split on two or three.
