I'm sorry if this is one of those questions asked a thousand times but here it goes...DivX 5.0.2 and 5.0.3 will not play any of my avi files. I have tried using the Nimo Codec Pack to install differant codecs, I have tried installing older versions of DivX, but nothing is working. The files play fine in WMPlayer and also I have used DivX before, succesfully, with the same files I am trying to play now. I'm not sure what version I was using previously since I had a HD crash and had to reinstall everything. Is there a program that will tell me the proper codec to play the files? Should I be using a specific version of WMPlayer? Any help, suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I prefer not to use WMPlayer since the quality stinks. Can anyone recomend a good quality player to veiw MPEG files? Thanks!

try uninstalling the nimo... if nothing happens, get the tsunami at my signature called "tsunami codec and filter pack 399" -

1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub or NanDub
2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box
(Additionally, GSpot will provide codec information)Comment

Ah, this may help sort this out. Using GSpot it says DirectShow can apparently play the file as well though it has chosen a different codec whose primary 4cc(Divx) does not match the files 4cc(Div3).Comment

try the BSPlayer www.bsplayer.org the best one (my oppinion)
It has lot's of options, including the subtitle delay, nifty custom pan-and-scan and stuff...
when you open the file in the bsplayer, right clicking the video window gives you a options>filters>divx decoder submeni where you can set some options for the divx 5.0x that might help. In addition if you hear the sound (which I don't doubt, since it's plane mp3) there might be a problem with overlay, that can be video driver related or simply wrong type of it (can be RGB too)
Anyway all of that can be tweaked through bsplayer
